You know that old sitcom from the early 1980’s, Cheers? The one where people from different walks of life gathered together to take a load off and share their life experiences while working and drinking at the bar. Lucky for us, Goa has a similar place in the form of DTR Pub & Bistro. In fact, the lyrics to the theme song of Cheers fit the image that one gets when you hear of or think about DTR Pub & Bistro – Panjim’s Favorite Place To Chill, “…Where Everybody Knows Your Name And You’re Always Glad You Came..”

Overlooking the 300-year-old Patto Bridge and Rua de Ourem, DTR Pub & Bistro has been around for the last 10 years or so. The place has an upstairs area which houses the restaurant and a downstairs area where the pub is. You can either sit inside (in the non-a/c part of the restaurant), or out on the first-floor balcony if fresh air is your thing.

Wining and Dining

DTR Pub & Bistro has an extensive menu with dishes from India, China and a few continental items as well as some fast food like burgers, wraps and pizzas. All the food looks and tastes really good and is very reasonably priced. And the portions are decent too. There are too many dishes to list here, but you also get a whole lot of rice, noodles, chicken, beef, pork, prawns, vegetarian and seafood dishes in all the classic Chinese sauces and styles.

Not only do they have an impressive list of Chinese dishes, they also have a smattering of international favourites like Italian pasta and pizzas, steaks, Goan Sausage Pulao among a long list of other Goan dishes, North Indian veg and non-veg dishes along with the regular accompaniments of ‘rotis’ and ‘naans’ prepared the way one would like it. No one has found fault with the food or the service so if you are thinking of heading there, you are definitely going to get your money’s worth.

The proud owner of this fine establishment, Mr. Lyndon Furtado is always around and is usually surrounded by a loud and fun loving group of friends (including myself) no matter which day of the week or weekend it is. Plenty of our nights have been spent having a meal, with the drinks flowing and the mood is always excellent. Pictures are constantly taken by various people and they always remind us of happier and lighter times and great moments spent with friends like family.

Like any popular hangout, DTR Pub & Bistro hasn’t always seen good times but when a place is genuinely great and feels like home, you know it will always get back the glory it once had. In fact, after a long dry spell of 5 months, DTR Pub & Bistro has reopened it’s doors and is now serving drinks with their tasty dishes. Drinks range from cocktails -to wine – to alcohol, with mixers of your choice; all very reasonably priced.

Party Time at DTR Pub & Bistro – Panjim’s Favourite Place To Chill

As far as I can recall, DTR Pub & Bistro has always thrown some rocking parties during Carnival, after midnight mass on Easter, on Halloween, Christmas Eve and Christmas Night (that’s the 25th night) and New Year’s Eve, all of which we never fail to attend. Besides these, Saturday nights with DJ music or sometimes local bands like Tidal Wave, Smooth, True Blue just to name a few. Last year and even this Carnival, a band called ‘Artesanato Pulso’ travelled up to Goa a number of times just to play at the pub. And they played some really good music everyone enjoyed.

DTR Pub & Bistro also sports a huge LCD screen showing football matches like the Euro Cup and World Cup and which are super fun to attend. Everyone has fun and enjoys the general camaraderie that flows from cheering for teams or taking good natured jabs at each other just for the heck of it.

So if you’re looking for an upbeat pub/restaurant with great food, drinks and ambiance, get yourself, family and friends to DTR Pub & Bistro – Panjim’s Favourite Place To Chill and you’ll have the time of your life. It does help that the place feels like home and to our group of close friends, it sure is HOME.
