Head to Fisherman’s Shack on the Betalbatim beach in south Goa if you’re looking to get away from the crowds on the other popular beaches. No mass tourism here, just the endless silver beach, the heaving Arabian sea and a iridescent blue skies. Obviously seafood dominates here and you might want to try out some of the fruit from the sea. You can also discuss what exactly to eat – king prawns, lobster – with the owner and also bargain for a better rate if you’re in a small group. The food is more on a simpler side though you do also get your seafood in lemon garlic butter sauce. A plateful of jumbo prawns served with the chips and salad, with around 20 prawns, comes for only Rs.400, done the way you want them, of course with limited sauce options like Goan spicy masala or crumb fried, etc, or Tandoori style. The portions are generous and the service brisk and friendly. They also have a limited selection of North Indian food, many Goan dishes like Fish Curry Rice and Ambotik, European-style steaks, pastas and salads, and a decent but small bar menu – you can have a shot of Tequila if you feel like it. You can also stretch out on a beach bed with your drinks and food and enjoy the serene beach air.
