The fourth edition of the Goa Environmental Film Festival is all set to begin from August 26. The festival will be inaugurated by State Environment and Forest Minister, Rajendra Arlekar. The three day event will feature poetry sessions, story recital sessions and artwork highlighting the Mhadei issue*.

*(The Mhadei Issue : Karnataka has been vigorously trying to divert the Mhadei water (Mandovi) to Malprabha basin by constructing canals between both the rivers. This can be detrimental to wildlife, flora and fauna and water bodies of Goa. This case is under dispute, with Goa winning the first phase.)

According to a member of the organizing committee, Advocate Satish Sonak, ‘The purpose of the festival is to change the mindset of the people towards the environment.’

Besides short films the organizers have introduced a literature and art component. A plethora of short films is lined up addressing environmental issues for the festival. The Goa Environmental Film Festival will be held at Kala Academy, Panjim till August 28.
