For decades Goa has draped backgrounds of numerous Bollywood blockbusters. A couple of them include Dudhsagar in Chennai Express or Chapora Fort in Dil Chahta Hai attracting movie frenzy tourist hoping to re-live popular scenes.

The recent India International Travel Mart (IITM) Chennai awarded Goa the ‘Film Tourism Destination of the Year’ Award which was received by Goa Tourism Department,  Mr. Rajesh Kale (Director), Mr. Pravinkumar Faldessai (Manager Marketing), Mr. Bharat Chodenkar (Asst. Manager) Mr. Rohit Hangal (Director of Sphere Travelmedia & Exhibitions).

“This award is unique as it portrays Goa as the most favoured destination for film shootings. Goa’s picturesque locations make it a hot spot for film producers and directors to capture the beauty of Goa on camera and make the movie more vibrant and eye-catching,” said Dilip Parulekar, Goa Tourism Minister.

The three day fair in Chennai witnessed an overwhelming response from travel and tour agencies. Various tourism initiatives and other attractions were promoted along with a display, entertainment programmes and an authentic dinner that showcased Goa.

Gaining Recognition

Goa Tourism is honoured and confident that both international and national film producers and directors will avail facilities extended to them by the Entertainment Society of Goa for film shootings. In addition, the department is hopeful that glimpses of scenic Goa will be showcased to the country and the world, and this in turn will boost tourism.

Enhancing Tourism

Goa already has been the stage and backdrop for more than 100 movies during the last one decade. Goa Tourism will continue to promote the state as the most popular choice for film shootings. While many shots cover popular locations of Goa, various film producers also capture some of Goa’s lesser known locations which in turn promote the smaller facets of Goa. The hosting of the International Film Festival India (Goa) annually also adds further impetus to Goa as a paradise for film shootings.
