Goa has received good news in regards to U-17 FIFA world cup. The state has been shortlisted to host one of the semi-finals of the sporting event. The U-17 FIFA world cup has been considered to be the biggest football event to be hosted in the sub-continent.

“We have not decided on all the marquee matches, including opening and final, but we will have one semifinal in Goa,” said All India Football Federation (AIFF) president, Praful Patel in a TOI report.

The U-17 FIFA world cup will witness the participation of 24 countries. These teams will be divided into six groups. Fatorda stadium was shortlisted as one of the 10 venues in 2013 to host matches. The infrastructure requirements for the event were to be ready by October 2016.
