With an aim to keep teachers in Goa one step ahead of their students when it comes to new-age technology, the education board in Goa has roped in ‘Google Web Rangers’ to lead the way, with training that will put the education system back on track by empowering the teachers to be internet and computer savvy.

As many Schools are now becoming WIFI hotspots, Secondary and Higher Secondary School teachers in Goa will be educated on the importance of internet safety. The training programme will also include senior heads of the Schools. These tutorial classes are expected to go on until the end of this month.

Some processes which have become computerized in Schools over the last couple of years include:

  • On-line form filling
  • Correspondence via email
  • All Circulars uploaded as PDF’s
  • Maintaining an updated website
  • Digitization of School records

It has now come to light that many School teachers are lacking the basic computer skills to carry out their work productively and that is why the current Google programme is being pursued with utmost importance.

Accurate results

Another area where the training of teachers with the latest technology will come in handy includes exam results. This year the Goa board implemented computer assisted paper corrections. After the latest Class X and Class XII board exams, many teachers felt that they were ill-equipped to deal with the online system, due to lack of on-the-job training.

The latest training will add to the confidence of the teachers and help them carry out their roles more efficiently and effectively. The Goa board is also hoping that the number of students asking for re-evaluation will come down with the new system in place.

The new process is said to be user-friendly and looks like it will not be long before majority of dedicated teachers are up-to-date and well-equipped. Thus ensuring a favourable impact on the educational system in Goa.
