Marathon Sees Death of 23 Year Old Dutch National

The Rotary Rain Run was organized by Rotary Club of Porvorim in support of The Prakash Cancer Aid Project, funds from which went in aid of this project. The marathon began at 5:30 am on Sunday, 31st August 2016 at the Sports Authority of Goa, Athletes Stadium in Bambolim.

The marathon saw a good amount of participants coming out on a Sunday morning in support of this great cause. The starting point being SAG Athletes Stadium in Bambolim, from where the runners had to run to Miramar via the Goa University road and back. The marathon saw participants for different events viz. the 5 Km walk, the 10 Km run and the 20 Km run.

All went well till the 10 Km run which ended on a sour note.  Christina Kanptev of Dutch Nationality collapsed. After she fainted she was first given first aid and then rushed to the Goa Medical College. The doctors at the casualty ward declared her dead on arrival. The Agassaim Police Station was notified without delay.

According to one of the participants running behind her, Christina was ahead in the race and collapsed as soon as she crossed the finish line. but did not die while running, as reported. The medical support at the stadium rushed to her aid but could do little as they began facing complications, so they rushed her to the Goa Medical College.

Christina’s body has been preserved in the GMC morgue for postmortem examination which will take place only after receiving a reply from the concerned embassy. Christina’s family has been notified and the police are waiting for the go ahead to conduct the post mortem.

A case of unnatural death has been registered at the Agassaim Police Station.

According to the Police officials Christina was staying in Anjuna, and had come to Goa on a tourist visa.
