A group of villagers from Sanguem, Quepem and Curchorem areas have demanded from Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar that work on the mining bypass be completed as soon as possible. The delegation under the banner of ‘mission bypass’ met the CM today. They declared that no trucks would be allowed to transport Ore from that area unless the bypass is built.

“The state government has been dragging its feet over the crucial mining bypass which needs to be completed in three phases. Due to this, the trucks are forced to take the main road resulting in several fatal accidents,” Pradeep Kakodkar, a leader of “Mission Bypass” was quoted in a PTI report.

The villagers began agitating for a mining bypass in March after two women died in an accident involving an Ore transporting truck. Kakodkar claimed that around 6000 trucks transporting Ore operate in the area. The agitation he claimed has affected only a few of them and not the entire operation.
