The Goa state Cultural Award goes to…..

The Directorate of Art and Culture recently announced the list of  awardees for the Goa state Cultural Award 2015-16. Bestowed upon 12 talented Goans in the field of art and culture are cash prizes (worth of Rs. 1,00,000), a certificate, shrifal, Nataraj replica and a shawl.

The date and venue of the Goa state Cultural Award function which will be organized by the directorate of art and culture is yet to be decided. However the recipients of the award for the year 2015-16 are mentioned below:

  • Chedo Subha Parwar, and Anil Ganesh Kondurkar, for Indian music
  • Jerome Rodrigues, for Western music
  • Arun Ramchandra Sakhardande, and Leena Satish Pednekar, for Literature
  • Pradeep Chandrakant Vernekar, Pralhad Babai Hadfadkar, Theodore Alvares, and Jose Xavier Gomes, for Theatre/Tiatr
  • Balaji Raghuvir Kamat, for Bhajan
  • Mahendra Tulshidas Gaonkar, for Folk Art
  • Mohan Ganesh Mayekar, Mormugao, for Fine Art
  • Rudreshwar, Panaji, for the best Cultural Institution. The award consists of a memento and cash prize of 3 lakh

There is no doubt Goa is rich in cultural and ethnic diversity. Highlighting the true essence of this state and showcasing it to the rest of the world deserves special awards. I look forward to seeing new incentives encouraging Goans to save the local art and culture during the period of modernization.
