Final year mechanical engineering students of Don Bosco College of Engineering, Fatorda developed a glass cleaning robot.

Johan Vernekar, Vibert Trindade, Francis Fernandes, Siddhant Dessai and Cecil Flaco have created and tested a prototype ‘Glass Cleaning Robot for High Rise Buildings’ under the guidance of head of department Ajit Salunke professor of Mechanical Engineering.

This project aims to eliminate the risk that window cleaners face. The robot achieves this task through horizontal movement of a sponge attached to an aluminium frame of the robot. The vertical and horizontal frames consist of vacuum cups holding the robot against the glass surface.

Ultrasonic sensors detect the distance between the glass and sensor. All the actions of the robot are controlled by a microcontroller hence promising it to be time efficient and cost effective.

This can save huge cost and reduce the dangers labourers face cleaning windows several feet of the ground.
