It’s that awful time of the year again when the scorching sun takes a toll on your skin, hair, and practically everything you try to do at this point in your life. Considering the majority of working women in Goa commute by the ‘over-crowded’ public transport, it can be a task to look calm and cool this summer.

From smelly pits to oily skin, these quick and simple tips will help you prevent beauty woes that are most common, as well as maintain that perfect glow this season. These simple measures and homemade remedies will ensure that you’re on point even if you have to be on a constant move about this summer.

Moisturize for summerMake a moisturizer your best friend

According to Cosmopolitan, moisturized skin retains fragrances better than dry skin. Use a lightweight, non-scented moisturizer prior to applying your perfume to help make your signature fragrance last longer.

Layer your scents

This has to be my most followed tip, and guess what? It works! For a larger impact, incorporate your favourite scent throughout your entire beauty routine. Start by using a scented body wash in the shower, and then following up with similarly smelling body lotion, deodorant, and perfumes in order to lock in the scent.

Hair for summerSweet smelling hair

Did you know, sweat doesn’t just affect your skin but can also leave your hair smelling bad? Cosmopolitan recommends masking any musky scents by spraying your favourite perfume on your hairbrush and then combing your hair with that brush. However, make sure you do not spray the perfume directly on your hair as the alcohol in the perfume could dry and damage out your hair.

Save me from that frizz!

Summer + Humidity = Worst hair day ever! (Which is very common in Goa) However, don’t you worry ladies, we’ve got the perfect solution to that too. To tame your frizz, apply some hairspray on a toothbrush and comb your hair evenly with it. Do not comb too much, since it can lead to split ends. Make sure that you repeat this every night before retiring to bed.

Rose waterDon’t let that glow, go away

Banish any sweat or oil buildup by using a cleansing cloth+Rose Water or a Baby Wipe. Not only do the wipes feel refreshing on the skin, but they also help to wash away dirt and bacteria. My personal favourite has to be the Rose Water remedy, as I can literally feel my skin breathe once I wipe my face with it.

DO NOT rub your wrists together

Well, this was definitely a shocker for me. Apparently, rubbing your wrists breaks down the structure of your fragrance and causes it to dry down faster. Translation? The top notes — the first ones you smell after spraying — will quickly fade and your scent will be gone before you even head out of your apartment.

Summer Tan LinesGet rid of that tan

Nobody can avoid a tan when travelling by local transport, and especially if you have to catch more than one bus. A homemade remedy to avoid this is to make a paste of tomato and yoghurt with water or rose water and apply it over your skin. Keep it on for a few minutes and rinse it off with lukewarm water. Another tan removal product with which I saw visible results is the Biotique papaya tan removal scrub. Just follow directions on the pack, and soon enough you may see visible effects too.

Easy, peasy, oh so breezy!

Wearing light colours definitely helps, no doubt, but your favourite clothing wear this season should be kurtas and very chic shirt dresses. These outfits are in almost every woman’s closet, and it’s not difficult to find them either. This kind of loose outfits will help keep yourself cool throughout your busy day, and it’s a no-brainer that a cool mind is the best to mind to work with.
