Up, Up and Away we go!

Launched for the first time last year by GTDC, hot air ballooning has become a rave among tourists especially the romantic newly-weds.

“We are very happy to re-start operations of hot air ballooning services….” stated MLA and chairman of GTDC Nilesh Cabral. (As reported by The Hindu)

Longing for a 360-degree field of vision? How about a weightless sensation, getting lifted off your feet up to heights of 2500 feet? Then the hot air ballooning experience is a must.

Tourists and locals alike  can now get a bird’s eye view of Goa’s picturesque landscape with the launch of two hot air balloons this year.

The launch pad

Presently set up at Assolda in South Goa, with the take-off point at the village panchayat ground. A ride for an hour costs Rs 9,900 per person.

These rides held usually in the mornings and evenings give the guests a great experience and avoid the uncomfortable afternoon heat.

The entire system meets all the required safety standard and certifications, a spokesperson said. For those adventure junkies, Goa Tourism offers online bookings on their website.

Hot air ballooning is completely weather dependent. Cancellation of flights is subject to weather conditions. Decision to delay or cancel a flight will only be made beginning 6.00am each morning. Passenger lists will be made available well in advance.

Balloons take between 15-30mins to inflate, depending on their size. Inflation usually commences at 6.15am with the majority of the balloons launched prior to 7.00am. The early bird catches the worm.
