Named after the patron saint of Goa, Café St Francis Xavier is one of the oldest eateries in Mapusa. This one is something of an institution with Goans as well as foreigners visiting the Mapusa Market. The interiors are elegant and relaxing and the service warm and friendly. They have an extensive list of Goan dishes cooked in the authentic style and lots of seafood. We recommend their Beef Chilly Fry, which is tempered with onions, tomatoes and green chillies, Pork Sorpotel, Fish CurryRice and Chicken Biryani. One can also try their Prawn Risoi, Goan style dumplings with prawn filling, Beef Patties, croquettes, which are round, cylindrical meat balls and so on. Those who aren’t particularly big eaters can ask for a plate of assorted snacks, eat what they like and return the rest. Roast chicken with French Fries is an excellent item on their European menu. They also stock a variety of breads. Caramel, mousse, cakes and other baked items. They remain closed on Sundays.
