Calangute, located near Panjim, is famous for being the first beach to foster the hippie culture during the 60’s and 70’s. The hippies gradually made way for the more mainstream tourists who began to flock to Goa in order to get a taste of what the place had to offer. The beach itself is quite popular and is always bustling with people. Nevertheless, there always seems to be enough room for everyone and each one can find his own space.

Apart from the regular beach activities on offer, Calangute is famous for its rave parties, which last for hours at a stretch. Some of these parties have been known to continue for days, as party-goers move from place to place in search of enjoyment.
