FIFA Chief to visit Goa

“We can confirm that the FIFA president will attend the AFC Congress in India. His agenda in Goa will be confirmed in due course,” a spokesperson of the body told TOI.

The news circles in Goa are buzzing with the reports of FIFA (Fédération Internationale de Football Association) President Gianni Infantino visiting Goa on September 27. However Infantino’s visit is expected to be a short one as he will return back to to Switzerland on the same day.

Other then the meeting, “The FIFA president will release the logo for the 2017 Under-17 World Cup besides the new logo of the AIFF,” said All India Football Federation, General secretary, Kushal Das said in a TOI report.

AFC extraordinary congress

In Goa he will attend the AFC (Asian Football Confederation) extraordinary congress. The meeting is held to elect three additional members from the AFC to the FIFA council. Contesting member are Saudi A Aziz Al-Mohannadi (Qatar), Ali Kafashian Naeni (Islamic Republic of Iran), Zhang Jian (China PR), Zainudin Nordin (Singapore) and  Mong Gyu Chung (Korea Republic).

One seat has been reserved for a female members. Contestants for this seat are among Mahfuza Ahkter (Bangladesh), Han UN Gyong (DPR Korea) and Moya Dodd (Australia).

FIFA will soon replace its 24-member executive committee with a 37-seat council. This is being done in an effort to reform the sports body.
