On September 4. The Chapel of St. Teresa was inaugurated on the Island of Chorao.

The chapel is situated along the connecting road of the island to River Mandovi.  It has a statue of St. Mother Teresa seen at the entrance.

“This is an initiative of the people. The locals took the lead and it was inaugurated today on the day when Mother Teresa attained sainthood. This is the first ever Chapel of such kind in the State.” said Fr Gabriel Coutinho, after inaugurating the Chapel.

Fr. Gabriel, the Parish priest, served at Chorao for eight years untill his transfer to Vasco. He said that the chapel would inspire many to emulate her preaching of serving the needy people. Fr Minguel Pereira, exhorted people to learn from the life of Mother Teresa. He further emphasised that she engaged in good deeds throughout her life.

Celebration Mass

Principal of Guardian Angel Higher Secondary School held a solemn concelebrated Eucharist. A short film on the life of St. Teresa was screened for the catechetical students. The concelebrants were Fr. Walter Miranda, Parish Priest Fr. Santan D’Souza and Assistant Parish Priest Fr. Ronaldo Fernandes.

As St. Mother Teresa once said, “if you can’t feed a hundred people then just feed one.” Similarly, Fr. Santan D’Souza urged the congregation to follow her footsteps.  By rooting oneself in prayers and serving the destitute and poorest of poor, one could achieve this.
