There’s a New Year’s quote that gets forwarded a lot on social media. It says “A New Year is like a blank book. The pen is in your hands. It’s your chance to write yourself a beautiful story.” And just like that, it’s also the chance to make New Year resolutions and create a better life for yourself. That means you get to reflect on the past year and the experiences you had and decide what needs to be made better. But most of the time, these New Year resolutions that we want to make, hardly ever work out. Luckily there are a few things that we can do to make some, if not all, become a reality.

Working on New Year Resolutions

Start with small goals

Most people who make New Year’s resolutions have a tendency to want to do big things. There’s nothing wrong in setting lofty goals for oneself but at the same time, they need to be realistic goals. Therefore, it’s important to pick things that don’t need to be done in a hurry and can be finished over the course of the year.

Prioritize these goals

Once you decide on your goals, make them a priority. Do them every day for however much time you can spare. Our New Year resolutions often end up being a long list of things we’d like to do but when we don’t decide which ones should be prioritized, nothing gets done.

Reverse bad habits

Let’s face it, we all have good and bad points. We may even resort to unhealthy habits over the course of the year. The good news is that we can overcome these. It isn’t a race and it’s important to understand that when adding this point to your list of New Year resolutions. All you need to do is to start with one or two and work on them diligently.

Have someone keep you on track

Ever hear the saying, “the spirit is willing but the flesh is weak”? We’ve all been through it. Made a decision to do something but not had the conviction to go through with it. Here’s where it helps to have someone hold you accountable when it comes to following through on New Year resolutions. Ask a family member or a friend to help you stay on track when trying to get rid of those pesky vices.

We’re not perfect and despite our good intentions, it’s easy to lose sight of all our New Year resolutions. So don’t stress if you miss out on something. There’s always going to be another year where you can do things differently.

On that note, we at ItsGoa would like to wish all our readers a very Happy New Year!
