The much-awaited Patoienchem Fest is back this Independence Day, 15th August 2018. This year the Socorro Socio-Art and Cultural Association in collaboration with Goa Tourism Development Corporation will celebrate 7 Feasts. Villagers from all seven wards of Socorro viz. Ambirna, Arrarim, Carrem, Maina, Porvorim, Vaddem and Zosvaddo will come together to make the Fest a grand success.
15th August is not only Indian Independence Day but also the Feast of Our Lady of Assumption. On this day Goans make a sweet called ‘Patoleo’. These steamed pancakes have a unique flavour – made from raw rice paste, stuffed with freshly grated coconut and palm jaggery, wrapped in a turmeric leaf and steamed. In keeping with tradition, the festival is named ‘Patoienchem Fest’ (Festival of Patoleos), where plenty of Patoleos will be up for grabs.
