If you know how to drive a car or ride a motorcycle, you no longer need to rely on private or public transport when holidaying in Goa. While scooter rental services have been easily available in the state for many years now, self-drive cars are now becoming very popular. Many domestic tourists travelling to Goa now opt to rent a self-drive vehicle in their home city and drive to Goa. If, however, you are already in Goa and looking for a safe and reliable option for renting a self-drive car, here are three great websites to check out.

MylesCars.com

Myles Cars prides itself as being India’s first self-drive service in India. They currently have over 40 different vehicles to choose from, with 250 pickup locations in 21 cities across India. Their simple 3 click process requires you to choose a pickup location, the car you’d like to drive, and some basic info. They even have apps available on Android and iOS to help make the process easier.

SelfDrive.in

Self Drive started in 2005 in Pune with just 2 cars. Today, they have over 1500 cars in their fleet, across 45 different models, with a presence in Goa, Mumbai, Delhi, Chandigarh, and of course Pune. Apart from vacation car rentals, Self Drive also offers its clients the option to lease a car on demand from 1 to 24 months with EMIs. Their rental packages also include roadside service, damage insurance, unlimited kilometers and more.

UrbanDrive.co.in

Urban Drive is a relatively new player in the self-drive market, however their unique service allows for clients to book cars, as well as motorcycles. Their rental plans are extremely affordable, and allows for self-drive cars or bikes over short time periods such as hours or days, or longer stretches such as weeks or months. To make the rental process easy, Urban Drive offers an interactive chat service on their website, or the option to download their app on Android or iOS.

Points to remember

  • Always present a valid driver’s license and photo identification
  • Drive safely, observing the rules of the road
  • Never carry more than the recommended number of passengers
  • Use high beams only when necessary
  • Do not honk unnecessarily, especially in residential areas
  • Do not drink and drive
  • Do not carry illegal substances

If you’d really rather leave the driving to someone else, all-day cab services are also available from providers such as Joey Car Rentals in Panjim, or Vailankanni Auto Hires in Candolim. Both services offer cab drivers for a period of 8 hours or 80 kilometers. The Goa Tourist Development Cooperation (GTDC) has also launched its own taxi-app service called Goa Miles, which although new, is slowly gathering a growing user base. Click here to know more. In addition, you can ask your hotel concierge to help arrange a car service, or direct you to a motorcycle rental service since they are very common in all the major tourist areas.
