Scaffolding collapse near Kesarval

UPDATED: Scaffolding of flyover near Kesarval collapses, 4 injured

3 hours ago at around 12 noon, the scaffolding of the under-construction flyover near Kesarval in Verna collapsed leaving 10 injured 4 injured. The support structure between two pillars of the flyover crashed while work was underway. A police team was called immediately, while the injured were transported to Goa Medical College (GMC) to be treated. There are no reports of fatalities at this time.

The flyover is being constructed as part of the national highway project connecting Panaji to Margao city, which is located 30 km away. The slab and scaffolding collapse site is just a few meters away from the Zuari river bridge.

UPDATE: As per a statement made by the builders Dilip Buildcon, 3 pillars collapsed due to imbalance. 4 workers were injured, of which, one fractured his leg, one has bruises, and the other 2 have minor scratches. The report also states that “primafacie the scaffolding  failure is “most likely due to soil displacement from the hillock”.
