Science Express Climate Action Special winds its way to Goa

The Science Express Climate Action Special will be hosted by Goa’s own Margao (Madgaon) Railway Station from 11th  to 13th  July 2017. Mounted on a 16-coach air conditioned train, it is the largest and longest mobile science exhibition. For the first time traversing Konkan railways and focussing on Climate Change. The exhibition is free and open to all young and old from 10 am to 5 pm at the station.

A flagship programme of the Department of Science and Technology, the Science Express is an initiative of Konkan Railway to arouse, encourage and inspire young minds in the fields of Science and Technology. Maintained by the Vikram A Sarabhai Community Science Centre  (VASCSC) this Exhibition was launched on 30th October 2007.

The Science Express Climate Action Special

It has entered the Limca Book of Records 12 times. Currently, in its 9th Phase, the Science Express was flagged off from Delhi on the 17th of February this year covering 19,000 Kilometres and exhibiting at 68 stations across the country.

It’s speciality

A kids’ zone is set up for children from Class 4 and below to participate in fun-filled activities, game and puzzles in science, mathematics, and environment. While The Joy of Science (JOS) Hands-on Lab in Coach 13 is a space where students from Std. 5-10 can perform experiments and activities to understand concepts in environment, science, and mathematics in an interesting manner. A training facility is also set up for orientation of teachers.

The train has exhibitions on various themes like wildlife and nature conservation work being carried out by different research institutions across India. The initiative also highlights work on tiger populations, biodiversity, and chemical ecology.

For those interested, the Science Express moves on to Ratnagiri, (Maharashtra), where it will be open to all from 14th to 17th July 2017 from 10 am to 5 pm.
