Goa is famous for its villages and their tinto’s a sort of village square where every local Goan meets to exchange news or perhaps pick up a hot savoury or a beverage (could be of the spirited variety too). Would one find it in a starred hotel too? The Park Hyatt in keeping with the local Village Square concept, has its very own Village Café – the place from where the different specialty restaurants seem to flow. It is a vivid and cheerful all day dining restaurant. With simple yet elegant interiors, it provides the perfect ambience for a quick breakfast, a relaxed lunch or a late-night rendezvous. Breakfast is the most popular meal, with a variety of Continental offerings as well as an Indian breakfast selection.

The open kitchen encourages guests to interact with the chefs while they cook. From a variety of freshly baked breads, to the interactive ‘eggs to order counter’ or ‘south Indian’ specialties sizzling on the hot plate the buzz of diner intermingled with he clink of crockery and the scraping of chairs as one moves around for a refill sets the mood for the day.

Lunch is normally a light affair with a range of sandwiches and fresh salads on the menu. A favourite? Then try the Classic Tenderloin Cheese Burger with traditional condiments, served with French Fries and Coleslaw. Wash it down with a choice from the exhaustive beverage menu which includes freshly brewed coffee and loose-leaf teas. The dinner menu has a flavour of the orient. Order the signature dishes – The Thai Spicy Vegetable Soup with lemongrass and galangal. Yuum! The spice will hit the high note as you absorb the aromatic flavours. Yes there are bold favourites too which the chef recommends: The Thai Green Curry with vegetables, served with steamed rice. Who can resist the rich curry…a treat for the vegetarians. The preparations are fine tuned with the chef’s ingredient mix. 24 hours in a day, the Café holds sway. Whatever the country, it is worth the order. The Village Café has its very own appeal.
